A Look back at 2021

As the 2021 year comes to an end, we would like to summarize GiKaD's accomplishments in the past year and send our sincere thanks to our sponsors.
The Covid-19 pandemic has left a profound negative impact on our children: one of our elementary school student, one 8th grader, one 9th grader left school. One trainee broke off his training to go to work at the request of his parents. All attempts by GiKaD to send them back to school have failed.
Despite being restricted from visiting our children directly at school or home due to the Covid-19 spread, GiKaD has introduced multiple programs to support our children further and help them escape poverty through education.

SOSCov

Vietnam has had the fourth major Cov-19 wave since April. Because of the prolonged lockdown, many of our scholarship recipients’ families have no income to sustain, as they live mainly from street food sales or temporary manual work. Furthermore, online schooling represents a big challenge because our students lack the technical equipment and the “know-how” to participate.
In 2021, GiKaD distributed Covid-19 Emergency Aid to desperate students to sustain their basic livelihood. Four children also received special help for purchasing mobile phones to take part in online schooling.

PC4KiDS

Computers are learning tools that actively support students in high schools and become even more important when they enter college or university.
Through the PC4Kids program, GiKaD donated 2 desktop computers and 4 laptops to 6 high school students.

EgoStom

The Education goes through the Stomach - EgoStom (Learning is way better with a fuller stomach) - is a project that was launched to further support students whose families have extremely low income. These students performed well throughout the year with average grade score above 8.0 and have excellent conduct.

The EgoStom grant is between 13 USD and 22 USD (approx. 300,000 VND - 500,000 VND) per month and is paid quarterly.
To continue receiving EgoStom aid, our students were asked to listen to the fables and write essays to share their thoughts and observations as well as their own personal "lessons learned". The best essay is awarded 200,000 VND.
The 2021 EgoStom program supports a total of 30 students.

Dreamcatcher

In addition to support our students’ schooling, "Dreamcatcher" is a special program that also helps their families build barns to raise pigs and chickens, grow crops for effective long-term sustainability.
Nguyen Thi Huong has received this support since 2016.

She is currently in 12th grade and dreams of going to university.

Greenleaves

In the school year 2020-2021 the Greenleaves program supports 98 students under 12th grade and one college student.
At the end of the 2020-2021 school year, many students received certificates of merit for being excellent students:
10 children have finished elementary school.
7 students passed the 10th grade exam.
1 student passed the vocational school.
Dang Quoc Huy passed the university entrance exam (Information Technology).
Y Hien (from the To Drá ethnic group in Kontum) graduated from Medical College.

As the year comes to an end and although the pandemic is still going strong, GiKaD group firmly believes that the future will be brighter because each one of us can contribute to make the world a better place.

Please help our desperate students in Vietnam to find the way out of extreme poverty through education. They have no way out unless we take the initiatives to help and to make a difference in their lives.
